Physics 20 Lab Seminar - Edmonton

Physics 20 Lab Seminar - Edmonton

Students in the Physics Laboratory 2024-2025 seminar will gain experience in using the scientific method, laboratory skills, and lab write ups pertaining to Physics.

In Physics 20, students will conduct experiments in: The Scientific Method and gaining mastery in conducting measurements within experiments (toy car activity); Kinematics - the study of objects in motion without reference to forces (determining whether an object is exhibiting uniform or non-uniform motion using ticker tape); Dynamics - the study of position and velocity of objects and systems with reference to forces (calculating the coefficient of static friction of various materials); Circular Motion (creating and using a slingshot or catapult to launch an object); Wave Propagation (modelling wave propagation and analyzing its factors with gummy bears).

In both Physics 20 and 30, students will be coached and mentored in measurement, graphing, and algebraic reasoning but it is expected that they will already have adequate graphing and algebraic reasoning skills to manipulate basic algebraic equations. Also, students will do an online pre-lab assessment to ensure adequate preparation.
