Biology 20 Lab Seminar

Join The Gilbertine Academy high school students for a term of Biology labs! Whether you're working toward high school Biology credit or want to have a solid understanding of labs, this is an excellent opportunity for your student. 

Students in the Biology Laboratory 2022-2023 seminar will gain experience in using the scientific method, laboratory skills, and lab write ups. 

In Biology 20, students will: consider and analyze evidence for and against the theory of evolution; explore photosynthesis and cellular respiration (isolation of chlorophyll); begin integrating human systems (fetal pig dissection); and better understand the human respiratory and circulatory systems (lung function testing).

Mediated Learning Foundations A

Learn the steps to empower your innate teaching skills.

This series of three 2-hour sessions will include instruction, parent participation, and opportunity for Q & A.  As participants meet in a virtual classroom, a microphone headset, a strong internet connection and speakers are required.

Workshop runs for three Mondays: September 12, 19, and 26, from 7 pm – 9 pm.

Foundations is a prerequisite to all other Mediated Learning Courses with the exception of Screen Impact.  Once you have completed Foundations, please explore the other courses in any order.

Essay Skills: Write Your Best English 30 Diploma Exam A

6-week workshop
Tuesday and Thursdays, September 13-October 20, 2022
Time: 4-5:30pm

This workshop is intended to assist students who are preparing for the written portion of the English 30 Diploma exam. Students will learn to decode essay prompts and utilize effective essay formatting. Applicants need to have advanced writing experience.

This workshop covers the 2 essay types of the written portion of the exam: the Critical/Analytical Response to Literature and the Personal Response. Students will be taken through an 6 week program to cover each of the 7 scoring categories of the exam to help students achieve the highest score they can. Students will meet up to 90 minutes twice a week, and will have lots of hands-on writing practice and feedback. A mark will be assigned for this course that may be used by the Gilbertine content specialist in a course challenge.

Workshop acceptance based upon application. A maximum of eight students will be accepted.
