Westlock and Area Fall Gathering

When: Monday, September 4, 2023, 4-8pm
Where: Bethel Bible Camp - 10 minutes west of Westlock

WISDOM will provide hot dogs, buns, condiments and beverages. We will enjoy a meal together as well as have an information time, door prizes, games and socializing. This event will run rain or shine.

Please bring: potluck sides, salads or desserts to share with the group. (Please note: if you have a highly restrictive diet, feel free to bring your own food if you wish.) There are many activities to enjoy at the facility, but you are welcome to bring other lawn games, board games, or lawn chairs if you would like.

Fundamentals of Chess F - Ages 6 - 10

When: Tuesdays, September 5 - Oct 10 from 2:00 - 3:00pm

Does your child love to play chess? This six-week program is a unique opportunity to play the game while improving skills in Problem Solving, Deductive Reasoning and Creative Thinking by solving chess puzzles and executing a systematic process to beat your opponent.

While this program is called "beginner" it will challenge your chess player and keep them engaged, even if they have been playing for years.

Choir in Calgary

Choir rehearsals are offered in the NW on Wednesday mornings and the South of Calgary on Friday mornings.

We start in the first week of September and end the first week of December with a Christmas presentation.

There is a membership cost of $360 for the term, there is an early registration discount and a sibling discount. You will also be refunded 100% if by the 3rd rehearsal you feel it's not for you.

Early Childhood Music: 4+5 year olds 9:15 until 10:00
Junior Choir: 6 to 12 years 10:15 until 11:15
Senior choir: 13 to 18 years 11:30 until 12:30

Rocky Mountain House Historic Site Family Gathering

When: Wednesday, Sept. 6th, 11-3pm
Where: Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site
What: Museum, Fur Trade post, educational puppet show, trails on extensive grounds

Possible demonstrations include Metis jigging and fiddling, bannock, blacksmithing. Admission will be free for students (have ID card as proof) and a small fee for parents. This is a great way to kick off your History studies for the 2023-2024 school year. We will learn about David Thompson, mapmaker and explorer and his Cree wife Charlotte Small as well as the way a Fur Trade post functioned in the late 1800's.

We have planned outdoor games such as dodgeball, and group competitions such as tug of war.

Mediated Learning Foundations J

Online

Learn the steps to empower your innate teaching skills.

This series of three 2-hour sessions will include instruction, parent participation, and opportunity for Q & A.  As participants meet in a virtual classroom, a microphone headset, a strong internet connection and speakers are required.

Workshop runs for three Thursdays: September 7, 14, 21, from 7 pm – 9 pm.

Foundations is a prerequisite to all other Mediated Learning Courses with the exception of Screen Impact.  Once you have completed Foundations, please explore the other courses in any order.

Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village - Fall Family Event

When: Saturday, September 9, 2023
10:00 am - 5:00 pm "Harvest of the Past"
12:00 noon - gather to eat lunch with other WISDOM families

Where: Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village
25 minutes (50 km) east of Edmonton; at 195041 Highway 16 East

What: "Harvest of the Past" themed event
Come for as much of the day as you like and take the self-guided tour. Gather with WISDOM families at 12:00. Watch for WISDOM signs marking our picnic site. Bring your own lunch and drinks and enjoy meeting and visiting with WISDOM families. After lunch, continue to tour more of the site if you wish. 'There will be the opportunity to view an old-fashioned threshing bee as well as other historical activities; times will be posted. Wed love to have you attend!

Admission to "Harvest of the Past" is paid at the gate upon your arrival. Arrive a bit early if you'd like to be there right when it begins at 10:00; admission can take awhile if there is along line up of vehicles.
