Foraging Walk - KananaskisDate: June 24 Learn about 10-20 species of wild edible plants and fungus, with a focus on their use in the home kitchen. Kevin Kossowan has been on 100+ wild food adventures in the Canadian wild for his twice James Beard Foundation award nominated web series ‘From The Wild’. He’s taught field cookery at the Global Bushcraft Symposium, co-creates the series ‘Wild Harvest’ with Les Stroud and chef Paul Rogalski airing on PBS and National Geographic, has led numerous foraging workshops and forage-to-table workshops, and regularly works with chefs exploring the culinary potential of the Canadian wilderness. This event is only for WISDOM families. A parent or graduate may attend by themselves; students must be accompanied by an attending parent. |

Kananaskis Rock Climbing GEnjoy real-life rock climbing on the Wasootch Slabs in beautiful Kananaskis. If some of the family prefer not to climb, there is a lovely trail for hiking. Registration: $165.00 per family. This is a day camp and we won't have overnight accommodation included. This event is for WISDOM families only. |

Survival: Spring Foraging/Spruce Tip Tea F - EdmontonWhen: June 25 from 1 - 3pm Whether in a survival situation or simply going for a hike, knowing where to find food and useful materials outdoors is an important skill. Participants will learn about the traditional uses of local plants, fungi and trees, as well as how to identify other useful materials that would support wilderness survival. The class will end with some spruce tip tea. Please bring your own reusable mug! This class makes a great precursor to the Wild Food and Outdoor Cooking class. This program is geared towards home school students ages 6 – 17. While parents are not obligated to participate in these workshops, a parental representative must be present for students. Parents and younger siblings are also welcome to stay for the duration of the workshop free of charge. We ask that paid participants be given the space to fully engage and participate in the program. We run our programs rain or shine and encourage parents/students to check the weather on the day of the workshop and dress accordingly. We suggest wearing layers, as well as long pants and closed toed shoes. |

A Métis Welcome AWhen: June 27th 2024 at 9:30 Join Métis Elders and interpreters in the Métis camp at the National Historic Site in Rocky Mountain House to learn about the history of the Métis people, the fur trade, the buffalo hunt, and Métis culture. Try traditional finger weaving and learn to jig! Please arrive at the Visitor Centre at the National Historic Site in Rocky Mountain House at 9:45am. Interpreters will greet you there. The program runs from 10:00am until Noon and will take place outdoors, so please dress accordingly. Bring a bagged lunch (there are vending machines, but no real concession on site) to enjoy in the park afterwards. |
