Chemistry 20 Lab Seminar - Calgary

Chemistry 20 Lab Seminar - Calgary

Students in the Chemistry Laboratory 2024-2025 seminar will gain experience in using the scientific method, laboratory skills, and lab write ups pertaining to Chemistry.

In Chemistry 20, students will study and conduct experiments regarding: the scientific method and gain mastery in conducting measurements within experiments (Forming Ionic Compounds); Forms of Matter, Gases (Investigating the properties and behaviour of gases such as Boyle's Law); Matter as Solutions, Acids and Bases (Making a solution with a precise concentration); Quantitative Relationships in Chemical Changes (Stoichiometry through rockets).

In both Chemistry 20 and 30, students will be coached and mentored in measurement, graphing, and algebraic reasoning but it is expected that they will already have adequate skills in naming and deriving chemical formulas for Ionic and Molecular Compounds and acids, balancing chemical equations, given two reactants, graphing and algebraic reasoning skills to manipulate basic algebraic equations. Also, students will do an online pre-lab assessment to ensure adequate preparation before every lab.
