Spruce Salve Making - Red Deer E1163

When: 1-3pm October 7
Where: Red Deer - Kin Kanyon (Meet by playground)

The forest has long provided humans with materials for food, shelter, tools, and medicine. In this class, participants will explore the traditional uses of spruce and learn about the many ways this remarkable tree has been valued.

Students will learn about:

• Traditional uses of spruce
• The properties of spruce sap
• Sustainable harvesting practices
• How natural materials can be transformed into useful products

Participants will head outdoors to collect spruce sap before returning to process it into a finished product.

Each student will create their own small tin of spruce sap preparation to take home. These handmade creations make wonderful gifts and provide a meaningful connection to traditional skills and the natural world.
