Fire Building - Stony Plain E1164

When: 1-3pm October 8
Where: Chickakoo Recreation Area (meet in upper parking lot by washrooms)

Building on the skills learned in fire starting, this class focuses on understanding fire as a living system. Students will learn how to build and maintain a fire that is efficient, safe, and suited to different conditions.

Topics will include:

• Choosing appropriate fire materials
• How different types of wood affect a fire
• Fire structure and airflow
• Troubleshooting common problems

Students will explore questions such as:

• Why is my fire producing too much smoke?
• Why won’t my fire grow?
• How do I build a fire in wet or challenging conditions?

Through hands-on practice, participants will learn that successful fire building is less about creating a flame and more about understanding the needs of the fire.
