Chemistry 30 Lab Seminar - Calgary
Students in the Chemistry Laboratory 2024-2025 seminar will gain experience in using the scientific method, laboratory skills, and lab write ups pertaining to Chemistry.
In Chemistry 30, students will study and conduct experiments regarding: Thermochemical Changes (Calorimetry, how many calories are in a macadamia nut); Electrochemical Changes (Making a Battery); Acid/Base Chemical Reactions (Titrations); and Chemical Equilibrium on Acid-Base Systems (Titrations extended).
In both Chemistry 20 and 30, students will be coached and mentored in measurement, graphing, and algebraic reasoning but it is expected that they will already have adequate skills in naming and deriving chemical formulas for Ionic and Molecular Compounds and acids, balancing chemical equations, given two reactants, graphing and algebraic reasoning skills to manipulate basic algebraic equations. Also, students will do an online pre-lab assessment to ensure adequate preparation before every lab.
