Survival: Salve & Tea - Calgary

What: Salve & Tea
When: May 29 from 1 – 3 pm rescheduled for May 15 from 1 – 3 pm
Where: Bowness Park (Meet by the washrooms by the playground) 

Time to stop and contemplate the beauty and amazing gift of the Spruce and other conifers we have throughout Canada. Participants will learn about the edible, medicinal and useful parts of the Spruce tree. We will make spruce salve made from spruce resin that can be used on dry skin and lips. We will end the class with a warm cup of spruce tea. Please bring your own reusable mug.

This event is open to all current WISDOM home schooling families as well as those contemplating home schooling. This is a great opportunity to visit with other home schoolers and members of the WISDOM team, and find out more about how WISDOM can serve you best.

Survival: Firecraft and Knife Skills C - Lethbridge

What: Firecraft and Knife Skills
When: May 16 from 1 – 3 pm
Where: Indian Battle Park

Participants will learn about different types of knives and their uses and practice processing wood for the firecraft portion of the class. During firecraft, youth will learn how to build a fire with the Triangle of Fire as a foundation.

Mediated Learning Foundations G

Online

Learn the steps to empower your innate teaching skills.

This series of three 2-hour sessions will include instruction, parent participation, and opportunity for Q & A.  As participants meet in a virtual classroom, a microphone headset, a strong internet connection and speakers are required.

Workshop runs for three Thursdays: May 18, 25, and June 1, from 7 pm – 9 pm.

Foundations is a prerequisite to all other Mediated Learning Courses with the exception of Screen Impact.  Once you have completed Foundations, please explore the other courses in any order.

Foraging Walk R

A morning in the North Saskatchewan river valley with wild food guide Kevin Kossowan. Learn about 10-20 species of wild edible plants and fungus, with a focus on their use in the home kitchen.

Kevin Kossowan has been on 100+ wild food adventures in the Canadian wild for his twice James Beard Foundation award nominated web series ‘From The Wild’. He’s taught field cookery at the Global Bushcraft Symposium, co-creates the series ‘Wild Harvest’ with Les Stroud and chef Paul Rogalski airing on PBS and National Geographic, has led numerous foraging workshops and forage-to-table workshops, and regularly works with chefs exploring the culinary potential of the Canadian wilderness.

Date: Fri, May 19th
Time: 9-11am

$45 per participant. 
This is not a drop-off event. A parent or guardian must be present and is considered a paid participant. While there isn't an age restriction and students are welcome to attend with a grandparent or other older family member, these workshops are student-focused.

This event is only for WISDOM families.

Chess Club - Olds

Date: Friday evenings from 7-9:30
Location: Olds AB

Chess club for ages 7 and up.

Parents are encouraged to stay and play but this is optional. There is also space to visit.

Please bring $10/month per family plus a snack to share. Donations to the instructor when there is a lesson would be appriciated.

Beginner+ Ballroom Dance Workshop - Lethbridge

Our ballroom dance workshops are a great place to have fun while learning the basics of ballroom dancing. You will not only learn the basics - like how to waltz, rumba, fox trot and jive - instructors Mike and Michele Barter will also teach ballroom etiquette. These workshops have trained several generations of homeschoolers in the art of ballroom dance. Students benefit from the training in social graces as well as the opportunity to spend time with other home schoolers. 

Anyone under the age of 18 will need to have a registered parent or guardian present at the workshop/ball.

Open to non-WISDOM families; WISDOM families take precedence.

Registration begins at 9:30am

Dance workshop all day with a break for lunch. 

Bring a bag lunch, and a main dish and salad or dessert for the potluck supper. Ball begins at 7:00pm. Please bring a change of clothes for the ball. Semi formal to formal attire. 

Prices:
$175 per family
$45 per individual 

Drop in for the grand ball: $50 per family and $15 per individual.

Pricing for non-WISDOM families:
$196 per family, $50.40 per individual.
Drop in for the grand ball: $56 per family and $16.80 per individual
