Chess: Intermediate Continuation Class Z - All Ages

Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Chess
When: Mondays 9 - 10am, January 15 - February 19

Intermediate chess course is for students who want to learn complex concepts that revolve around seeing at least 2 moves ahead or more. This challenging 6 week course helps students reach their full potential as they master all fundamentals and start visualizing multiple variations. Classes can only be taken by students who took the beginner chess class offered by WISDOM or for students who contacted Mr Bloom directly to verify skill level.

Introduce your child to the world of coding with our "Coding for Juniors" course, designed for kids aged 8 to 12. Using the friendly and creative platform, Scratch, this course teaches fundamental programming concepts such as algorithms, events, variables, loops, and decisions. Through exciting projects, including animations, games, art, and music, your kids will grasp basic programming concepts without too much technical jargon. Join me for an engaging and educational journey that equips your child with essential digital skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Fundamentals of Chess Q - All Ages

Does your child love to play chess? This six-week program is a unique opportunity to play the game while improving skills in Problem Solving, Deductive Reasoning and Creative Thinking by solving chess puzzles and executing a systematic process to beat your opponent.

While this program is called "beginner" it will challenge your chess player and keep them engaged, even if they have been playing for years.

Basic Computer Skills for Windows

Time: Tuesdays - 9-10am
Who: Ages 12+ (parents can take this course, too!)

We use computers all the time, but sometimes struggle with basic concepts like the file system, system settings, basic applications that come with the operating system. In this course, I'll introduce you to all these basics. After that I will teach you the absolute basics of working with common file types like PDFs, images, audio and video. The goal of this course is to give you the skills you need to make you more efficient, productive and comfortable in the Windows environment.

Greetings, Cross Country Ski Enthusiasts (and those wanting to give it a try this year),

We invite you to join the new Cross Country Ski Club for the Calgary area. Joe and Diane Pollock — retired WISDOM facilitators and current PAC members — have created a system of ski trails on their property just southwest of Calgary, and are making them available to WISDOM families.  In addition, they will plan outings to other X-C ski venues in the mountains. 

No experience is necessary, but you will need to have your own ski equipment.  Joe is a former ski instructor who is willing to provide lessons for anyone requesting them.

If you are interested, register below and attend an introductory Zoom meeting on Wednesday, January 17th, where dates and locations of outings will be discussed and planned.

This course is intended to provide a thorough introduction to the Mac for individuals aged 12 and up, including parents looking to improve their computer skills. The curriculum covers important topics like becoming familiar with navigating the Mac, organizing files and directories, understanding various file formats, and basic troubleshooting techniques when things go wrong. Students will learn how to use a Mac for a variety of everyday tasks, including document creation and multimedia content management. This foundational course will provide learners with the skills they need for daily computing activities while also preparing the way for more advanced learning.

Chess: Advanced Continuation Class N - All Ages

Prerequisite: Chess: Intermediate Continuation Class 
When: Fridays, 2:00-3:00pm - January 19 - February 23, 2024

This Workshop is for students who have completed the beginner and intermediate chess workshops and are ready for some fine tuning to their skills. 

Students have learned core chess concepts, while solving puzzles to improve problem solving skills . In Advanced Chess, it's time to put those skills into action. This class focuses on real-time game playing with personalized coaching, and adds in new concepts that take the game to the next level.
