Biology 30 Lab Seminar - EDMONTON

Join us for a term of Biology labs! Whether you're working toward high school Biology credit or simply want to ensure a solid understanding of labs, this is an excellent opportunity for your student. 

Students in the Biology Laboratory 2023-2024 seminar will gain experience in using the scientific method, laboratory skills, and lab write ups. 

In Biology 30, students will: study the neurological system (cow or sheep brain and eye dissection); the endocrine system (case studies); the reproductive system (bovine organ dissection); molecular genetics (strawberry DNA extraction); and carry out meaningful exercises that will assist them in their diploma examination.

Physics 30 Lab Seminar - CALGARY

Join The Gilbertine Academy high school students for a term of physics labs! Whether you're working toward high school physics credit or want to have a solid understanding of labs, this is an excellent opportunity for your student. 

Students in the Physics Laboratory 2023-2024 seminar will gain experience in using the scientific method, laboratory skills, and lab write ups pertaining to Physics. 

In Physics 30, students will study and conduct experiments regarding: Momentum and Impulse (toy car collisions); Forces and Fields (determining factors that affect electrical force between two charged objects); Electromagnetic Radiation (using chocolate to calculate the speed of light); Atomic Physics (creating and analyzing models to understand the nature of an atom). 

In both Physics 20 and 30, students will be coached and mentored in measurement, graphing, and algebraic reasoning but it is expected that they will already have adequate graphing and algebraic reasoning skills to manipulate basic algebraic equations. Also, students will do an online pre-lab assessment to ensure adequate preparation.

CLT 10 (College Preparatory Exam & Grade 9-10 Assessment) B

The Classical Learning Test 10 (CLT10) is for students in grades 10 or 11. These tests focus on numeracy and literacy, and can be a useful evaluation tool, as well as a CLT preparatory exam. CLT can be conveniently accessed from home.

Indoor Rock Wall Climbing - Edmonton G

Vertically Inclined

Aimed towards the first-timer, this 2 hour session allows participants to learn about the sport of climbing through hands-on (and feet-on) skills.

This means instruction on putting on an approved climbing harness, learning how to belay (manage the ropes) and a technique tip or two. This session is designed primarily to give your group a lot of time for climbing. Instructors are there to help guide you up the walls and to make certain that you enjoy a secure and fun filled climbing class. This course includes all the necessary equipment and instructors to facilitate your visit. 

Ages 5 and up. Parental presence is required. Parents may register and climb as well if they wish.

This series of two 2-hour sessions will include instruction, parent participation, and opportunity for Q & A.  As participants meet in a virtual classroom, a microphone headset, a strong internet connection and speakers are required.
