Physics 20 Lab Seminar - Edmonton

Students in the Physics Laboratory 2024-2025 seminar will gain experience in using the scientific method, laboratory skills, and lab write ups pertaining to Physics.

In Physics 20, students will conduct experiments in: The Scientific Method and gaining mastery in conducting measurements within experiments (toy car activity); Kinematics - the study of objects in motion without reference to forces (determining whether an object is exhibiting uniform or non-uniform motion using ticker tape); Dynamics - the study of position and velocity of objects and systems with reference to forces (calculating the coefficient of static friction of various materials); Circular Motion (creating and using a slingshot or catapult to launch an object); Wave Propagation (modelling wave propagation and analyzing its factors with gummy bears).

Chemistry 20 Lab Seminar - Calgary

Students in the Chemistry Laboratory 2024-2025 seminar will gain experience in using the scientific method, laboratory skills, and lab write ups pertaining to Chemistry. 

In Chemistry 20, students will study and conduct experiments regarding: the scientific method and gain mastery in conducting measurements within experiments (Forming Ionic Compounds); Forms of Matter, Gases (Investigating the properties and behaviour of gases such as Boyle's Law); Matter as Solutions, Acids and Bases (Making a solution with a precise concentration); Quantitative Relationships in Chemical Changes (Stoichiometry through rockets).

Medicine Hat Fall Family Gathering

When: Monday, September 23, 2024, 4-8pm

Where: Kin Coulee Park, Medicine Hat

Details: BBQ with potluck. WISDOM will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, and beverages. We will enjoy a meal together as well as have an information time, door prizes, games, and socializing. This event will run rain or shine.

Please bring: Potluck sides, salads and/or desserts to share with the group. (Please note: if you have a highly restrictive diet, feel free to bring your own food if you wish.) You are welcome to bring lawn games, board games, and lawn chairs if you would like.

Participants will learn about what Trees, Plants, Berries, and Fungi are edible, medicinal and/or useful, plus learn about any toxic plants, berries or fungi they may encounter. If possible there may be an opportunity to taste and/or cook what has been foraged.

This class will cover new and traditional methods of making fire starter helpers. Participants will be able to make their own fire starter helpers out of mostly natural materials that they can take home and use for their next fire.

Learn the steps to empower your innate teaching skills.

This series of three 2-hour sessions will include instruction, parent participation, and opportunity for Q & A.  As participants meet in a virtual classroom, a microphone headset, a strong internet connection and speakers are required.

Foundations is a prerequisite to all other Mediated Learning Courses with the exception of Screen Impact.  Once you have completed Foundations, please explore the other courses in any order.

Alberta Education requires we submit all student notification on the last business day of September for funding eligibility, which in 2024 is 4pm on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27. If possible, please enroll 5 or more business days prior to the deadline for our data team to review your notification.

We do accept post-funded families throughout the year on a case-by-case basis.

Lethbridge Corn Maze

When: September 27 from 1-4pm
Organized by: Facilitator Liz Gurnett

Come and join other homeschooling families as they navigate their way through the intricate maze, in a corn field which is way above your 'ears'. Spend between 20 minutes to 2 hours finding your way through 4 different mazes. And if you really get lost, do not despair, they will be harvesting in November. 

You can also enjoy a petting zoo and train ride if you choose. Looking forward to seeing you there.
