Survival: Grande Prairie A E915When: September 11, 2025 from 10am-3pm (bring a bagged lunch) Parental presence required Take advantage of both our Firecraft and Basic Wilderness Survival workshops at a discounted rate. This class will start off with a discussion about wilderness safety/what to do if you get lost, followed by a discussion about effective types of shelters for a variety of conditions. Then participants will get hands on and build their own emergency shelter with minimal tools. Fire starting takes a look at the science behind fire, and the hallmarks of an effective fire. Participants will have the opportunity to practice fire starting using basic methods. This class is a precursor to Advanced Fire Starting. General Physical Science Lab Seminar - Edmonton E918This program will introduce students to the scientific method and develop their knowledge and skills in the realm of the Physical Sciences in Chemistry and Physics. They will study and conduct experiments regarding: Study of Motion (Uniform vs. Non-Uniform motion); Study of Matter (Properties of Metals/Non-Metals/Ionic Compounds/Molecular Compounds/Acids); Dynamics (Ramp-Acceleration); Physical and Chemical Change (Factors that determine melting points of various molecular compounds). Students will write a lab report for each experiment and will receive personalized feedback to aid and improve further studies. The General Physical Science laboratory seminar offered through WISDOM Home Schooling is designed to prepare students to be successful in senior level Chemistry and Physics courses. To that end, this lab seminar will serve as a prerequisite for Senior Chemistry Lab Seminar, Senior Physics Lab Seminar, and Biology 30 Seminar. |

Survival: Grande Prairie B E919When: September 12, 2025 from 10am-3pm (bring a bagged lunch) Parental presence required Take advantage of both our Bushcraft Torches and Natural Adhesives and Primitive Tool Making workshops at a discounted rate. Torches have many uses in survival situations for light, moving fire, and other uses. This class will allow participants to create their own torch using only natural materials and learn about why torches may be an asset in the wilderness. This class will start with a knife safety presentation. Participants are welcome to bring their own non-folding knife if desired, otherwise all tools and materials will be provided. Learn to make an all-natural adhesive using ingredients found in nature. Class discussion will include the traditional origins of adhesive, as well as practical uses. Participants will then create their own adhesive using materials found in the area. |

Survival: Natural Adhesives and Primitive Tool Making - Grande Prairie E921When: September 12, 2025 from 1-3pm Parental presence required For most of human history we have learned to survive and thrive in nature using only what the wild provides. One important skill is making natural glue, or adhesive, from things like tree sap, plants, and even animal products. Once you have glue, you can make primitive tools such as spears, knives, axes and specialized tools meant for a specific task such as preparing animal skins. These are tools that early humans or wilderness explorers made by hand. A simple tool might be a sharp stone tied to a stick to make a knife or axe. This workshop will cover some of the traditional uses of natural adhesives before participants design and make their own tools to take home with natural glue they helped to make. Making tools and glue like this helps you understand how people lived before modern tools. It’s fun, creative, and a great way to connect with nature! |
