Most of the world’s wealthiest people are not members of royal families, Hollywood celebrities, or heirs to vast fortunes. They are almost exclusively entrepreneurs—people who have started their own businesses. And anyone can start a business.

But how? Even the thought can feel overwhelming. In this course, Travis Callaway makes starting a business simple to understand, using practical examples and real-life scenarios developed through teaching entrepreneurship and business planning at universities. Students will learn how to plan and prepare to start their own business.

The course includes six lessons that cover the full business planning and business launching journey.

Travis earned an MBA at Durham University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He has worked in the marketing, finance, real estate, and technology sectors; is an active investor in start-up companies in the real estate, legal, financial, and medical industries; has started multiple businesses in the education, finance, and management consulting fields; and teaches business at the University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, and the University of Lethbridge. This course is based largely on the business planning and start-up course he teaches to final-year university students at Mount Royal University’s Bissett School of Business.

Signing up for both courses would offer a comprehensive foundation in financial literacy that meaningfully supports the CALM 20 General Outcome 2: Resource Choices. Participating in the Financial WISDOM: Starting Your Own Business Workshop will help you achieve many of the specific learning outcomes associated with CALM 20 within the General Outcome 3: Career & Life Choices.
