Full Day Survival Combo - Derwent

Where: Derwent area
Meet at WISDOM office
When: May 27
Full day - $78
Foraging - 10am -12pm $33
Late May/Early June is typically the best time to hunt for Morel and Verpa mushrooms in the Derwent area. We will head out into the woods to see if we can spot any of these early season delicacies as well as medicinal, edible, and useful plants and trees. We will also be looking for materials for our Natural Dye Making.
Natural Dyes - 1- 3pm $33
Explore the world of natural pigments and paints! This class will cover the traditional use of natural materials to dye fabric. Participants will help prepare the dyes and dye their own fabric with the colours of their choice to take home with them.
Charcloth Making - 3-5pm $33
Knowing how to light fire with a variety of methods is very important skill to have. Charred materials have been used for fire starting throughout history. This class will cover char cloth making and use. Participants will leave with their own charcloth that they can bring home for their next, parent approved, fire.
Please do now bring any knives or cutting tools as they will not be needed.
Feel free to bring any Plant/Fungi field guide books for the foraging component
Dress for, colder, than the forecast calls for. Bring sturdy shoes and long pants along. While the office can be used for washrooms, we aren't able to spend any time in the building otherwise.
