Desmond began with WISDOM Home Schooling in the fall of 2020 and is looking forward to meeting and supporting families with their education vision and its pursuit.
It is said that a parent is a child’s first teacher. This, however, is often understood to mean just the first few years of life, but the parent-child relationship is a life-long commitment. It is true that what happens in the early years of a child’s life is very critical, but as parents our responsibility for our children’s formation does not end there.
Through homeschooling, parents have greater responsibility and freedom to shape the learning and the learning experiences of their children.
Desmond and his wife Claudia homeschooled their own three children through school and continued to support them through post-secondary studies and onto their current life paths. Having recently entered the state of grandparenthood, Desmond and Claudia can begin to enjoy watching the growth of their now four grandsons, and are happy to welcome more, granddaughters too, from a new perspective.
Desmond worked as a secondary school teacher in math, science and technology and a secondary school administrator in Edson for his entire teaching career. Now he is enjoying ‘retirement’ which often means trying new things. He has lots of time to putter around the acreage or what he sometimes refers to as his ‘toy farm’. He also enjoys hikes or scrambles in the Rockies, cross country skiing, reading, gardening and serving his church community.
