Born and raised in Paris, France, Lydie has always been passionate about languages and diverse cultures. While studying at university, she had the opportunity to work with people from various backgrounds at Disneyland Paris. Her extensive travels have taken her to places like Madrid, Spain, Torino, Italy, Athens and Santorini, Greece, and the Netherlands, among others. Each experience has broadened her horizons and deepened her appreciation for languages and different cultures.
In 2004, Lydie made a significant move to London, England, to improve her English before pursuing a Bachelor of Education to teach English Language Arts in France. She fell in love with the city and decided to complete her BEd at the University of Uxbridge in West London. Over the next four years, she taught French, Italian, and Spanish to underprivileged students aged 7 to 13 at a comprehensive school. These years were some of the most challenging yet profoundly rewarding of her teaching career, as she saw remarkable transformations in students who had previously faced educational obstacles. It was during this time that she realized the crucial impact of a strong family foundation on children's well-being. This experience planted a seed in her, although she did not fully realise it at the time.
During her time in London, a twist of fate brought Lydie into contact with her future husband, an Italian Canadian teacher with a passion for Science, Math, and Physics. His persuasive charm eventually led her to Alberta, Canada, where their journey as a couple and educators continued.
For the following five years, they made their home in the tranquil town of Hinton, AB, where Lydie passionately shared her love for French and Spanish with students ranging from Grade 4 to Grade 10. Immersed in the Alberta curriculum for Junior High and High School, her role as an educator continued to evolve. One of the most exciting chapters of this journey was the opportunity to teach a Kindergarten French Immersion class, expanding her teaching horizons even further.
In 2016, Lydie and her husband decided to make Red Deer, Alberta, their new home. This move marked the beginning of a unique and transformative chapter in their lives: homeschooling their two beloved children. This decision stemmed from the realisation that their eldest son's learning style flourished outside the traditional classroom. Homeschooling allowed them to foster a deep love for learning within their family, instill enduring values rooted in their faith, and witness their children's remarkable growth into well-rounded individuals.
Beyond her roles in education and homeschooling, Lydie's active participation in the local church community both in choir singing and leading the Children’s Liturgy team, brings her immense joy. Her love for reading not only enriches her life but also that of their children, whom she has the pleasure of reading to almost every day. During those rare moments of leisure, she explored the art of crocheting through YouTube tutorials, especially the art of amigurumi, embraced the enchanting world of the cello and will join the Red Deer Royals Novice adult band in the Fall. Whenever Canadian summers bless them with their presence, Lydie, Angelo, and their two children eagerly seize the opportunity to explore the breathtaking landscapes of this vast and beautiful country while camping, when they’re not travelling in Europe.
Embracing her role as a high school subject specialist at WISDOM, Lydie brought with her the wisdom gained through international teaching experiences and the unique journey of homeschooling, all guided by her unwavering faith in God. Her blessings have continued to manifest as she has had the absolute privilege of serving as a homeschool facilitator.
This past year has been both wonderful and challenging. Lydie has met with families and helped them in their homeschooling journey. She has been humbled by their stories, cried and laughed with them, and rejoiced in the achievements of their children. What a blessing!
Lydie looks forward to a new year with WISDOM.
