Hello all! My name is Meghan Lupien and I am new to WISDOM; however, homeschooling has been an integral part of my life and learning journey. I am the oldest of seven children and was homeschooled by my parents from Grade 2 straight through to graduating high school using the Seton Home Study Program. After graduating, I went on to study at four different universities in three different countries and have completed two post-secondary degrees. I believe that my ever present curiosity, wonder, and yearning for new knowledge and experiences are due to the amazing educational experience that my parents created for me and my siblings. I am so thankful for their love in action and the sacrifices that they made to ensure my siblings and I were best prepared for whatever we decided to pursue in life. I am also so excited to help support families in their own educational journeys, supporting parents in their right to raise their children according to their beliefs.
My educational journey began quite young, as some of my earliest homeschooling memories were helping my younger brothers and sisters to read, write and complete learning activities. After earning my Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from Brock University in Ontario, I taught abroad in Seoul, South Korea, and fell in love with teaching in a classroom. I felt called to the vocation of teaching and returned to Canada to earn my Bachelor of Education from the University of Prince Edward Island. Upon completion of that degree, I knew I wanted to teach and support an area of Canada that needed good teachers, and so my eyes turned north to the Arctic. I received an incredible opportunity to teach in one of the northernmost communities of the Beaufort Delta in the Northwest Territories, the small hamlet of Ulukhaktok. I was truly blessed to have the chance to experience life north of the Arctic Circle, above the tree line in the high Arctic. I was welcomed by the community, experienced the kindness and resiliency of its members and was able to share in the experiences provided by the land and people. During my time in Ulukhaktok I taught Grades 5 and 6, high school humanities, and I had the opportunity to serve in administration as vice principal for two years. I also spent a year as the Program Support Teacher in Ulukhaktok, supporting students and teachers with growth in foundational educational areas. This position then led to an opportunity to work from the Board Office in Inuvik as an itinerant Program Support Teacher traveling to and supporting multiple coastal schools in the Beaufort Delta.
Though my time in the high Arctic has come to a close, I am very excited to take the skills, talents, and supports I have learnt and apply them to helping homeschooling families on their own educational journeys. In an ever-changing world, families have a unique opportunity through homeschooling to pursue the pathways that best suit their lifestyles, goals, and dreams. I look forward to supporting families in achieving their goals. I also look forward to seeing trees again, spending more time with my family, and pursuing the goals and purpose that the Lord is guiding me ever towards.
